During this appointment, we will analyze your tattoo and skin to see if a laser treatment is the appropriate course of action in removing the pigment from your skin. We want you to be happy with the result, and want to provide you with the right information to have a realistic expectation of what the laser can and cannot remove.
What to Expect
Laser tattoo removal is not a one-step process. You may have several laser treatment sessions in order to fade the pigments in the skin. Your skin will also have to heal and repair itself between appointments. We will take you to one of our treatment rooms with the MedLite® Laser to accomplish the session. This laser has optimal wavelengths to absorb and remove the tattoo from your skin without damaging any of the healthy surrounding skin cells.
Your skin will be prepared with a cleanser and a topical numbing cream if requested. Many patients report the treatment feeling like a light snapping sensation on the skin. Once the laser has started working on the skin, the laser will maneuver its way back and forth on the surface of the pigmented artwork. The treatment time is based on the size of your tattoo. Once this is complete, we will apply a healing ointment on the area to keep it hydrated and then cover it with a protective bandage. You may have some swelling, crusting, intense itching, or a sensation that feels like a sunburn in the treatment area. We will discuss how to care for your skin with our aftercare instructions provided at the appointment.
